FEBRUARY

BEGINNING HANDLERS WORKSHOP WITH ANDY FONTENOT (members only):  Saturday, February 8, 2020, at Waterdog U, 10 am to 4 pm.  When teaching your dog force-to-pile, T-drill, and beginning handling skills, it’s crucial to know when, how, and how much pressure to apply to advance training effectively without lessening your dog’s drive or creating “hot spots.” This hands-on workshop with professional retriever trainer Andy Fontenot will teach handlers the importance of properly timed and appropriately given pressure, when it’s appropriate to introduce pressure, how to do it, and most importantly, when not to apply pressure.
INTENDED AUDIENCE: Owners wishing to learn how to handle and train their dogs for advanced retriever work, including T-drill, beginning blinds, and cold blinds. For handlers wishing to bring their dogs to this workshop, the dog must be ready for T-drill or doing work beyond that level (i.e., running blinds). Dogs already doing advanced handling with a professional trainer can also be brought if the owner wants to gain the skills needed to run their own dog after the dog comes home.
FORMAT: This workshop will begin with a classroom session in the training barn, followed by hands-on work with your dog in the field.
COST: Free, but as always, we will be taking donations to give as a gift to Andy for his time.
LUNCH: Provided, along with coffee in the morning.
RSVP: To Lily Lo at [email protected] by Feb. 2, 2020
